We are Pastoral Robotics

Loss of nutrients for the farm system is one of the biggest threats to farming. Nutrients make things grow, they cost money and when they escape the farm they harm the environment. Whether this harm is from carcinogens, algal blooms, smog or global warming it all represents a loss to the farmer and the environment. Pastoral Robotics’s mission is to keep the nutrients in the pastoral farm ecosystem, where it is wanted, and out of the environment, where it is not wanted. This is a real win win.

Nitrogen, phosphorous and other fertilisers and trace elements have enabled agriculture to feed the world, however their application has at best been crude with broad acre application from large trucks and aeroplanes. Today we see a move towards precision applications, Spikey® developed by Pastoral Robotics takes precision application to a new level. The Spikey® technology does two things:

Applies fertiliser accurately at low rates

The Spikey® technology fits in the farm routine, in fact many pastoral dairy and intensive beef farmers already apply nitrogen daily in what is known as a ‘follow the cows’ basis, that is when the cows are moved out of the paddock to a new paddock, (typically daily), the nitrogen is applied to the recently grazed pasture using simple tow behind technology. Pastoral Robotics recognised the opportunity to create a machine, Spikey®, that does all this and more.
